CYCLO SPORT DU PAYS D'AIX
You are visitor n°
Welcome to the Cyclo Sport Pays d'Aix (CSPA) website. The CSPA is the biggest cyclotourist association in the Bouches-du-Rhône region, with 200 members living in and around Aix-en-Provence.
On our website, you will discover our association, its history and its activities, and proof of the keen involvement of our members.
Below are some answers to questions you may have about our club:
• Is the CSPA a club only for competing?
The CSPA is affiliated to the Fédération Française de Cyclo Tourisme (FFCT). Our regular cycling rides (road and mountain bike) take place in a very friendly atmosphere, without a competitive spirit.
• As a novice cyclist, will the CSPA take me and my regular, no-frills bike?
We welcome beginners, provided that your bike is in good condition (brakes/gears working properly) and you have a helmet and basic repair kit. Don't forget your water and snacks, either.
Every Sunday and Monday we ride in small groups on the quiet roads around Aix. The CSPA provides training for all ages and levels. We do not group people by ages, but by their ability.
As a new member of the club you will be warmly welcomed by everyone, and you will never be left behind the group.
• I'm fit and good at cycling - is the CSPA the club for me? I'm concerned that I might be bored.
On Sundays, we have different-paced groups where you will be able to join cyclists of your level. Challenging routes with strong climbs can be suggested to help you prepare for epic races such as Paris-Brest-Paris.
New: CSPA welcomes members from 12 years of age on Sunday mornings for road rides.
• Cycling: a sport for individuals?
In our association, we like to chat while cycling and it's a lot of fun. Of course there will be steep slopes, and sometimes the mistral – a wind typical to this part of France – will make things slower and you'll have to work harder, but our experienced members will be there to guide and advise you, should you wish it. We always make sure that everyone gets a turn in the middle of the group, so that everyone gets that easier, 'sheltered' ride for a while! And, of course, in case of a mechanical problem, there will be someone there to help you.
Camaraderie soon turns into the friendship that we enjoy during our dinners, or that comes from taking part in our regular, organised cycling trips.
• Cycling : a sport mainly for men ?
With 28% of women in our club, the peloton is mixed. Men and women cycle as equals, to the mutual satisfaction of all - comments in our « Roue Libre » magazine, from 15 of our female cyclists, confirm this.
• Can I have a practice session to know if the atmosphere of the club will suit me ?
You can join us without having to be a member first – we welcome you on three outings for you to experience the CSPA, and the insurance of the club will cover you for these three rides. If you enjoy yourself, you can then take a licence that will insure you, and you can then benefit from all the club has to offer.
• I'm not in Provence for long – can I still cycle with the CSPA ?
We've already had people from different countries joining us, and they generally gained very good memories of their eperience.
• Where and how to meet us for a cycling ride ?
You can check our website, which is regularly updated, where you will find the arranged meeting places and different routes.
For any further information, do not hesitate to contact us.
